Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Services
HANDS provides safe water at a low cost to the underprivileged population of Pakistan through its WASH program. The service also focuses on sanitation and hygiene. Some of the projects undertaken include the provision of clean drinking water, improved sanitation schemes, open defecation-free villages and solid waste management. In 2022-23, HANDS carried out 16 WASH projects in 34 districts and 1,936 villages and urban settlements with 1.86 million beneficiaries.

Safe Drinking Solutions
We provide affordable and safe drinking water to underserved communities through water filtration plants, hand pumps, boreholes, and small-scale water supply systems. Access to clean water is essential for survival and health, especially in rural and low-income areas. By ensuring reliable water sources, we significantly reduce the spread of waterborne diseases and improve the overall well-being of families, particularly women and children who often bear the burden of collecting water.
Dignified Sanitation Facilities
Our sanitation initiatives focus on building and rehabilitating household and community latrines, improving drainage systems, and supporting open defecation-free villages. Safe sanitation is critical to protecting public health and preserving human dignity. By strengthening sanitation infrastructure, we help communities create cleaner and safer living environments while reducing contamination of water sources.
Healthy Behavior Change
Infrastructure alone is not enough; behavior change is equally important. Through hygiene awareness sessions, school programs, and community mobilization, we educate families about proper handwashing, menstrual hygiene management, and safe water handling practices. These efforts empower communities with knowledge and encourage long-term habits that prevent disease and promote healthier lifestyles.
Cleaner Community Systems
Improper waste disposal leads to environmental pollution and serious health risks. Our solid waste management initiatives support organized waste collection, safe disposal methods, and community-led cleanliness drives. By promoting responsible waste management practices, we help create healthier surroundings and foster a sense of shared responsibility for environmental protection.
School Cluster Policy-A pilot project
The objective of the school clustering policy is to support the Sindh Education and Literacy Department is to smoothly implement thef School Clustering Policy and enhance the capacity of the relevant stakeholders to advance the level through field coaching so that new delegated powers can be exercised by the cluster schoolsā head teachers and technical support to the government of Sindh, for scaling up the clustering policy execution and develop the monitoring and reporting system
Child Safe Spaces
Child psychosocial well-being refers to the emotional, social, and psychological development of a child. It encompasses their ability to form relationships, express their feelings and navigate the world around them. A childās psychosocial well-being is shaped by a variety of factors including genetics, environment, experiences and relationships with others. A positive and supportive environment, nurturing relationships with caregivers and opportunities for socialization and learning all contribute to a childās psychosocial well-being. Conversely, adverse experiences such as neglect, abuse or trauma can negatively impact a childās psychosocial development and lead to long-term consequences. It is important for caregivers, educators and mental health professionals to prioritize a childās psychosocial well-being in order to promote their healthy development and overall well-being
